Ao Nang Beach

Much as I enjoyed my few days in Krabi town, there isn’t  a lot to do, and even the people watching is fairly tame.  Once you’ve done the markets, the temple and the cave men, you’ve virtually exhausted the possibilities so it’s time to head out of town.
You hail the red song thaew displaying the Ao Nang sign, and on you hop with backpackers, school kids and locals, and settle in for the 20 minute ride out to the beach. It’s a pretty scenic ride too, with the road wending past the limestone karsts Krabi is famous for. Only I expected to see them in the water, not in the countryside!

Ao Nang is a typical touristville place, but it is clean, the water clear, and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Shady trees line the beach road and there are scores of boutiques and trendy eateries.

This is a backpacker’s paradise – cheap guesthouses, beautiful beaches and an idyllic lifestyle. You could lose yourself here for weeks on end. High end resorts sit on the more secluded beaches, but on a budget you can find your own slice of Nirvana in the centre of Ao Nang – hire a deck chair, have a massage & & order a cold drink with the mere raise of an eyebrow.
